Established in 1947 as a memorial to local servicemen and women, Knellwood is run by a non –profit making charity.
Solar Photovoltaics (PV) was chosen by the Board to offset increasing energy bills, caused not only by fuel price inflation but energy hungry facilities such as 24 hour laundry, lifts to all floors, and lighting.
Knellwood Care Home appointed Southern Solar to install just over 10kWp Solar Photovoltaic (PV) on the roof of the Hampshire Care Home. The solar modules used on this project are manufactured in the UK by Sharp, by a 500 strong workforce in North Wales. This installation will displace over 4 tonnes of CO2 per year. In addition, reducing their reliance on grid energy, and protecting themselves from energy price increases over the next 20 years. The management Board at Knellwood also wanted to maximise their investment for the charity, their solar installation qualifies for the Feed-in Tariff, and therefore it is estimated the system will have paid for itself with 8 years. Over the life of the Feed-in Tariff scheme, Knellwood will benefit from a combined income from the tariff and savings on their bills in the region of £35,000.
