The domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) launched yesterday (9th April 2014) - meaning owners of solar thermal systems among other renewable heating technologies can claim incentive payments for the green heat they generate. For solar thermal, this will mean 19.2p per kWh of heat for a period of 7 years, making the prospect of installing solar thermal more attractive for many homeowners. It is the first scheme of it's kind in the world and will allow more people to heat their homes in a more renewable way, lowering CO2 emissions along with energy bills. See the video below to hear Greg Barker talking about the scheme himself.

How can I benefit?

To benefit from the scheme, customers will need an MCS accredited installation of one of the renewable heat technologies. You'll then need a Green Deal Assessment before you can apply. We're currently unable to recommend any specific Green Deal Assessor from experience but there is some good advice around on the internet about getting one. As always, Which and Money Saving Expert are good sources of rational guidance. After that, you can apply via Ofgem's website.
