August Pitts Farm

Horsemonden, Tonbridge, Kent, August 2014
Overview
A 216.25kWp solar photovoltaic system was installed, tested and commissioned by Southern Solar Ltd in August 2014. The system comprises of 2 arrays on the roof of the main building and is wired in 43 x DC strings of 20 panels connected and fused in the string combiner boxes. DC power is then fed via a 2 core SWA into each of the two Fronius Agilo 100kW Inverters floor mounted inside the main building electrical room. The AC side of the inverters is connected into a G59 relay with built in generation metering and then to the main panel board. The Solar PV Total Generation kWh meter measures the total power production for the system.
The system is grid connected i.e. Electricity generated by the system is used in the building when there is demand. If the generated energy exceeds the building demand then any excess capacity will be exported to the grid. There is no on-site power storage.
The system is completely automatic and requires no manual intervention in normal use. The system will automatically start up at first light and switch off at dusk. In the event of a power cut, the system will automatically be isolated from the grid and will reconnect when it detects that the grid has returned to normal operation.
During daylight hours DC power is generated by the PV modules.
The PV modules used for this installation array are Vikram Eldora Ultima Series 250W Tier 1.

The roof mounted system used for this installation was provided by Renusol Meta Sole and is the Direct Mount rail.
The PV system Installation and commissioning was carried out by skilled and qualified tradesmen directly employed by Southern Solar Ltd.
Southern Solar’s approach to the design of all PV systems is primarily driven by MCS guidance and MIS 3002 – Requirements for contractors undertaking the supply, design and installation, set to work commissioning and handover of solar (PV) micro generation systems. This has a strong emphasis on transparent and systematic design methodology and is assessed independently on an annual basis.
In addition, the systems are designed in co-ordination with qualified electricians to ensure compliance with IEE Wiring regulations 2008 amended to 2011 and other relevant regulations. All electricians are qualified to C&G 2330 or similar as a minimum, some have C&G 2391/2392 PV training and all fall within our NICEIC electrical registration.
