Commercial Solar
Saving you money in the short-term, making you money in the long-term and helping you to meet business sustainability targets – investing in solar just makes good commercial sense.
We can work with your business directly, taking the installation all the way from design to delivery, or join you at a particular stage of your project:
-
Design and consultation;
-
Installation and project management;
-
Paperwork: Planning and Code for Sustainable Homes requirements, grant funding applications, Feed-in Tariff and Renewable Heat Incentive applications, grid connection applications, Energy Performance Certificates;
-
Operations and maintenance;
-
System monitoring;
-
Handovers and staff training in system management and monitoring.
We are also happy to support you as part of a bigger team, working through construction and M&E contractors, or alongside architects and energy consultants.
We love a challenge…
We thrive on the varied and complex nature of commercial projects. Whether it’s creating design solutions for unusual roof structures, tackling difficult engineering issues or helping you address planning and sustainability issues, we have the experience and skills your project needs.
This came in handy recently when installing a large-scale ground mounted system for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. The project, which involved installing 594 panels, had to overcome multiple challenges including:
-
Only 2 weeks to install, from the date of order to the deadline for completion;
-
Working on a wastewater treatment plant with multiple installation issues, not least fixing the dated electrics;
-
Connection to the grid had to be expertly timed around the weather (due to the nature of the site when it is raining it is vital that the pumps remain operational);
-
Great uncertainty about the government’s FIT review, which could have undermined the whole project; this meant assisting Dwr Cymru in the ROO-FIT application that could only be submitted the day before the government’s changes.
Our teams worked overtime. Every element of the process was expertly managed, effectively communicated and tightly co-ordinated across all parties. Southern Solar worked closely with Western Power Network Distributor in order to gain permission to connect the array at such short notice.
The project was a big success and our relationship with Dwr Cymru continues, with additional work such as Tamper Proof fixings, and discussions about other sites and O&M contracts.
