Somer Housing Association/Lovell Partnerships

Bath, August 2011 - April 2012

Overview

Somer Housing Association’s three developments in Bath came about due to a need to replace 191 homes. Aware of the need to protect tenants from rising energy bills and of the availability of the feed-in tariff to give themselves a return on their investment, they opted to take the opportunity to install solar PV on over 100 suitable properties, benefitting 171 separate households.

Our Solution

Southern Solar produced a range ofsystem designs to match the various kinds of properties across three separate sites, ranging from small terraced houses to large apartment blocks.

In order to fit in with the main contractor - Lovell Partnerships- build schedule solar installation carried out in stages over a period of around nine months. One site installed solar PV as part of their new build whilst the other two sites were mainly run as retrofit projects once homes had been completed and as such benefited from a higher Feed In Tariff rate. Southern Solar were also able to speed up delivery for the before December 12th, 2011 in order to beat the first feed-in tariff fast track review deadline and help secure a higher rate of return for Somer.
