In October 2012,Southern Solar Ltd. designed, project managed and installed over 84kWp Solar PV split into five blocks. The five flat blocks made up of 124 apartments were being refurbished to meet Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 on this social housing project. Design was a key part of Southern Solar’s role; we came up with a number or options and ran various models to ensure that the best design was created for the client, this included looking at different mounting options, the spacing and size of the PV systems and crucially finding the most cost effective way of attaining compliance.

 

Successful Installation

 

Time spent on design allowed for a smooth installation with clear lines between trades. The project was installed well within time frames and on budget. The return on investment for the client through the FIT meant the PV had a strong case to go a long way to meet CFSH level 4, despite the initial capital outlay. Since then the FIT rates have decreased but so have PV module prices come down significantly, meaning repeat work, with the same client.
