Grandport Nursery
Oxfordshire, December 2011
Overview
Grandpont Nursery School in Oxford were looking to take action to reduce their carbon footprint and energy bills. They decided to go ahead with a solar system, because of the ease of the technology to install and they could generate some income from the Feed-in-Tariff. They got in touch with the Oxford Office of Southern Solar, as they are one of the approved installers on the Oxfordshire County Council Framework.
Our Solution
Southern Solar worked closely with Grandpont Nursery to design a system that would best suit the needs of the school and ensuring minimum disturbance to the school by working around their schedule and arranging scaffold to be erected and struck at weekends.
A 6.6kWp system was installed overlooking the school playground which will generate an output of 5,577.80kWh per year saving the school around £650 on their yearly electricity bills. They will also receive a regular income from the FIT, which they intend to invest back into the school.
Our Client Said
"We felt that we wanted to invest in solar power not only to save money on our energy bills but to reduce our carbon footprint as the school is ideally situated for solar panels and we wanted the children to become aware of how we can use natural resources for energy. We are continually promoting the natural world and it's values to the children. We are fortunate to have a large garden and wood so that the children experience on a daily basis and in all weathers the fun, excitement and wonder of the natural world around them.
I have no hesitation in recommending solar panels to others as it is an extremely straight forward process of having them installed and we look forward to the financial benefits."
